All about Hackney Silver Surfers.

Hackney Silver Surfers is a partnership led by Age Concern Hackney that aims to increase the use of computers and the internet by older and disabled people, whilst making learning a fun and social experience. We offer a range of facilities, equipment and courses to help people get the most out of computers and the internet, including:

  • Free use of new computers and broadband Internet access at our drop-in centres in Hackney.
  • One-to-one help and support from experienced staff and volunteers.
  • Free 'taster sessions' for people who have never used a computer.
  • A range of free computer training courses to suit different levels.
  • Free consultation on acquiring computer hardware and software at the Silver Surfers Surgery.
  • Free computing, publishing and printing facilities for older people's clubs and associations.
  • Advice on formal learning opportunities for older people.
  • An outreach service for individuals and older people's groups.
  • Special adaptive equipment for people with disabilities.
  • Our own web server based at The Lawns: thelawns.org.
  • Translations of our core information into the Hackney community languages.
