Hackney Silver Surfers Program

Free Internet training, informal courses, advice and support for people who are 50 or over in Hackney.

Begin main content:

Internet and computers for Hackney senior citizens.

We have a continuous program of informal training, drop-in sessions, tasters (quick introductions for absolute beginners) and special events at our centres in Hackney. Our volunteers run special courses and provide support at sheltered housing schemes and other community centres. We also provide email and phone support for people who are unable, or do not wish, to visit our centres. Everything we do is tailored to the requirements of older learners, and it is all free.

Notes.

Our courses.
Our courses are funded by the Hackney Learning Trust, and lead to a City & Guilds 'StartiT' certificate.
We offer 2 alternatives for 'World-Wide Web and Email' — Tuesday and Wednesdays for 6 weeks, or a 12 week course on Mondays only. Ideal for beginners who want to learn about the Internet.
'Word-processing with MS Word' is a 6 week course on Thursdays and Fridays. MS Word is a popular program for word-processing (creating documents such as letters).
Drop-in.
Drop-in means that you do not need to book or make an appointment. Just come and use all our resources for free.
Workshops.
Workshops are usually one-day events, announced a few weeks in advance. Reservation usually a good idea.
