    http://www.ageconcern.org.uk/discuss/chat/
"The Baby Boomer Bistro was the first chat site in the UK developed specifically for the over 50s and offers chatters the chance to meet and make friends around the world. Via a variety of special virtual events, it also means that the voices of older people can be heard by politicians, decision makers and experts in many different fields."
NB: To chat, you must enable Java and allow cookies.
  2. Screenshot of page "Age Concern Discussions".
    http://www.ageconcern.org.uk/discuss/index.cfm
Web forum. Discussions on: books, caring, employment & money, family matters, gardening, health and welfare, IT & older people, living room, volunteering. Anyone with a valid email address can sign up to post messages.
  3. Screenshot of page "Fix My Street".
    http://www.fixmystreet.com/
"Report, view, or discuss local problems like graffiti, fly tipping, broken paving slabs, or street lighting."
  4. Screenshot of page "Freecycle London".
    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/freecyclelondon/
This is a way of recycling stuff you don't want -- by finding somebody else in London who does want it. Or if there is something you need yourself, you might pick it up here. You have to sign up with an email address, and be prepared to handle (and delete) a large volume of email, but if you have an Yahoo account, you can read all the posts online. Join up by sending a blank email to freecyclelondon-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
There is also a Hackney-only freecycle group which refuses membership to anyone who does not have a Yahoo account (so we can't evaluate them).
  5. Screenshot of page "OverFifties.com".
    http://www.overfifties.com/
    An international online community.
  6. Screenshot of page "PledgeBank".
    http://www.pledgebank.com/
PledgeBank is free and easy to use. Once you've thought of something you'd like to do, just create a pledge which says "I'll do this, but only if X other people will do the same".
